Blog#12 The Shortest Escalator

  Hi, i'm Juri.
Did you take part in the intercollegiate games? I did not. So I had four straight holidays last week because of no class on Thurthday!! I enjoyed :)
By the way. I have had a look at your blogs (#9) and envy your useful gadgets!! I want a smartphone earnestly!! I think Japan has a lot of high technologies, so we are surrounded by many useful things! Such things have brought about great benefits for our life :-)  However, such a useful thing is not always good. I think that it sometimes makes the Japanese lazy. For instance, cellphone is very useful, but thanks to it, our ability to write in Kanji became lower than before, I think. Don’t you think so?  I can't remember Kanji which I want to write once in a while.
Besides, I found an interesting topic on the internet some days ago. Please take a look at this picture.

Have you ever seen such a very short escalator? It is said to be "the shortest escalator in the world". The number of steps is only five!! You can find such a short escalator in underground shopping center in Kawasaki station. In addition, it is also found in Tokyo area. There are stairs next to the escalator. It seems more efficient to take them, so I think the escalator is not necessary and a waste of electricity :-(  What do you think about it??

  2. Hi.

    I've never seen it.
I think is a waste of electricity too.
After earthquake in east west, we should think the way using electricity.

    And I think so too.
Usuful gadgats is not always good for us.
We need to think twice about the way using them.

  3. What a silly escalator. I totally agree that it is a waste of time and effort and money. Another dumb use of the public's tax money. On the other hand, I would like an escalator at the nishi guchi entrance to take me from the downstairs to platform 15 to take me from Shinjuku to Ikebukuro every day. The stair climb is hard on my legs!

To keep your kanji skill alive, I recommend you write letters. That's how I practise mine.
